LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring the Hudson Valley Mariners upon the
occasion of capturing the 2012 NABA Florida World Series

WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be achieved
only through strenuous practice, team play and team spirit, nurtured by
dedicated coaching and strategic planning; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those exemplary sports teams within the State of New York who
have inspired and brought pride to their community by achieving
outstanding success in athletic competition; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor the
Hudson Valley Mariners upon the occasion of capturing the 2012 NABA
Florida World Series on November 4, 2012; and
WHEREAS, Competing against six of the top teams on the East Coast,
including teams from Florida, Virginia and Canada, the Hudson Valley
Mariners combined pitching, timely hitting, solid defense and a great
strategy to win their second championship in the last four years; and
WHEREAS, Catcher Steve Aurigemma from Marlboro, New York, was the
Mariners' most outstanding player of the tournament, going an incredible
22 for 26 at the plate; and
WHEREAS, In the semi-final game against South Florida, Isaac Hess
struck out 19 batters in an impressive complete game effort; in the
Championship game, Jessie Smith struck out 10 Cardinals, a team with one
of the best offenses in the country; and
WHEREAS, Overall, the Mariners' offense scored 47 runs, second only to
the runner-up Cardinals; the Mariners' pitching and defense allowed the
fewest runs of the tournament, just 22, which included back-to-back
shutouts on the third day; and
WHEREAS, The Mariners compete in the Hudson Valley NABA, where they
have won three championships in the league's five-year existence, post-
ing an overall record of 146-19-2 since 2008; and
WHEREAS, The athletic talent displayed by this team is due in great
part to the efforts of Player/Manager Dave Prince, a skilled and inspi-
rational tutor who has done a superb job in guiding, molding and inspir-
ing the Mariners toward their goals; and
WHEREAS, Loyally and enthusiastically supported by family, fans,
friends and the community at large, the Hudson Valley Mariners have
proven themselves to be a brotherhood of athletic ability and an unbeat-
able combination of talents; and
WHEREAS, The members of the Hudson Valley Mariners who were issued
2012 Florida World Series rings are: David Prince, Dan Slate, Jake
Slate, Lee Roush, Matt Roush, Jason Monti, Jessie Smith, Issac Hess,
Jeromie Spillman, Miguel Rodrigez, Adam Prince, Sven Jenkins, Steve
Aurigemma, John Morrissey, Ryan Butcher, Jake Gable, Joe Berte, Dan
Miller, Jose Martinez, Eric Katner, Jerry Lehman, Jared Bahnsen, Anthony
Litka, Andres Vengoechea and Mikey Prince (Bat Boy); now, therefore, be
it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor the Hudson Valley Mariners upon the occasion of capturing the 2012
NABA Florida World Series; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Hudson Valley Mariners.
