LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Stephen Abbott of Hartford, New
York, upon the occasion of winning the United Association Pipefitter
Apprenticeship Competition

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to publicly recognize
those extraordinary individuals who have made contributions to the
cultural enrichment of the State of New York, and to the success and
progress of society in the course of their life's work; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Stephen Abbott of Hartford, New York, upon the occasion of winning
the National Pipefitter Apprenticeship Competition; and
WHEREAS, Stephen Abbott is the new North American champion pipefitter;
a member of Local No. 773 of the United Association of Plumbers and
Steamfitters, he recently placed first at the National Apprentice Pipe-
fitting Competition in Ann Arbor, Michigan; and
WHEREAS, A 2001 Hartford Central School graduate, Stephen Abbott beat
out 50,000 other contestants throughout the United States and Canada for
top honor; he had the best overall score in a competition, based on
copper pipe fitting, threaded pipe fitting, orbital welding, a written
test and a personal interview; and
WHEREAS, With over 30,000 apprentices in the United States and Canada,
to go out and be number 1 is quite an accomplishment; Stephen Abbott,
who recently was advanced to a journeyman, spent three years in the
apprenticeship program; and
WHEREAS, Normally, the apprenticeship program is for five years, but
Stephen Abbott received two years of credit for an associate degree in
HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) he received from
Hudson Valley Community College; and
WHEREAS, A true asset to society, Stephen Abbott's distinguished
record merits the recognition and respectful tribute of this Legislative
Body; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Stephen Abbott of Hartford, New York, upon the occasion of
winning the United Association Pipefitter Apprenticeship Competition;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Stephen Abbott.
