LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION paying tribute to John N. Maslyn posthumously
upon the occasion of having Phelps Volunteer Fire Department and Phelps
Sauerkraut Festival's Annual Parade named in his honor

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those exemplary individuals within the Empire State who made
strong contributions to their communities and who inspired others
through their model citizenship and noble deeds; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to pay tribute to John
N. Maslyn posthumously upon the occasion of having Phelps Volunteer
Fire Department and Phelps Sauerkraut Festival's Annual Parade named in
his honor, to be observed on Saturday, August 4, 2012; and
WHEREAS, An active member of the Phelps American Legion for 31 years,
John N. Maslyn served as past Commander and President of the post, and
was named as Legionnaire of the Year in 2001; and
WHEREAS, John N. Maslyn also helped to build and maintain a small par
three golf course behind the Phelps American Legion; and
WHEREAS, John N. Maslyn was instrumental in the first grade Memorial
Day Program, which is now in its 26th year; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable individual was called upon to contribute his
time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has
always gave of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, A valued and involved member of his community, John N. Maslyn
was an important part of the Phelps Sauerkraut Festival; he was the man
who brought all the musical entertainment to this highly anticipated
event; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, John N. Maslyn stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout were his wife, Carol Maslyn, and their
children, Sheila, John Jr., and Brad, all of whom felt privileged to be
a part of his life and rejoiced in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which John N. Maslyn displayed throughout
his life; and
WHEREAS, John N. Maslyn's life was a portrait of service, a legacy
which will long endure the passage of time, and will remain as a
comforting memory to all he served and befriended; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to reflect upon
those outstanding individuals who have made everlasting contributions on
behalf of their fellow man and have truly left their mark on this great
Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to pay
tribute to John N. Maslyn posthumously upon the occasion of having
Phelps Volunteer Fire Department and Phelps Sauerkraut Festival's Annual
Parade named in his honor; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of John N. Maslyn.
