LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Linda M. Farchione, President and CEO,
upon the occasion of her retirement from Thompson Health

WHEREAS, Individuals who distinguish themselves in their profession and
in service to their community merit the highest commendation; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and fully in accord with its long-
standing tradition, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Linda M. Farchione, President and CEO of Thompson Health, of Canandaig-
ua, New York, upon the occasion of her retirement after 26 years of
dedicated and distinguished service; and
WHEREAS, Linda Farchione will be honored for her significant contrib-
utions to Thompson Health at a Retirement Celebration to be held at the
Bristol Harbour Resort in Canandaigua on Friday, July 13, 2012; and
WHEREAS, Thompson Health is a leading-edge healthcare organization
which provides a wide range of services for thousands of Finger Lakes
residents; over the past 26 years Linda Farchione has come to represent
Thompson Health; and
WHEREAS, Born at F.F. Thompson Hospital, Linda Farchione, a Canandaig-
ua Academy Graduate of Distinction, worked as a Registered Nurse in
Boston and the Midwest prior to heading a revolutionary mental health
program at Rochester, New York's Genesee Hospital; she returned to her
roots in 1986, becoming Thompson Hospital's Vice President of Nursing;
five years later, she was named President and Chief Executive Officer of
the entire Thompson Health system and has ably led the system ever
since; and
WHEREAS, From shepherding Thompson Health system expansions, to advo-
cating in Albany and Washington for legislative support of quality
health care, to marching in the Thompson contingent of Canandaigua's
annual Memorial Day parade, Linda Farchione has been a constant and
welcome presence, earning her well-deserved reputation as a woman whose
exceptional vision helped Thompson Health surmount a multitude of chal-
lenges posed by both the economy and a changing healthcare landscape;
and
WHEREAS, Linda Farchione has cultivated at Thompson Health a culture
of excellence and caring in which, even though Thompson Health has
grown, it still feels like family and which, even though it continues
building the technology, has not lost sight of its core values; and
WHEREAS, She has developed at Thompson Health a staff of talented
individuals whose dedication to Thompson mirrors her own, who will
ensure continued growth and innovation well into the future and who,
together with Thompson Health's culture of caring, will be her lasting
legacy; and
WHEREAS, Her colleagues describe Linda Farchione as that rare breed of
CEO who will hand-deliver ice cream cones to thank Associates for their
hard work, or warmly greet them with hugs at the holiday party and, a
believer in the power of a positive attitude, she worked with other
executives and board members early on to create a corporate culture
centered on Commitment, Action, Respect, Excellence and Service (CARES);
and
WHEREAS, Thompson Health's CARES values are the fabric of the organ-
ization; Thompson Health is Ontario County's largest employer and, as
such, everyone who comes through its doors is somebody's mother, child
or best friend and Linda Farchione wants them to leave with a feeling of
having been nurtured, cared for and understood; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the nearly three decades of her remarkable career
at Thompson Health, Linda Farchione spearheaded many initiatives and a
continuum of care unique to a community such as Canandaigua including

the 113-bed hospital which expanded into a state-of-the-art Emergency
and Diagnostic imaging facility in 2005, followed by the soon to be
completed Constellation Center for Health and Healing; the 188-bed M.M.
Ewing Continuing Care Center, which over the past 20 years added 80 beds
and became known as a leader in dementia care, long-term care and post-
hospital care; The Brighter Day, a medical adult day program which
marked its 20th anniversary in 2010; the independent and enriched senior
living communities of Ferris Hills at West Lake and Clark Meadows; and
the Sands Cancer Center, which opened in 2000, thanks to a partnership
with Highland Hospital and Interlakes Oncology and Hematology; and
WHEREAS, The Thompson Health continuum also includes the Urgent Care
Center in Farmington, which expanded and added digital X-ray services in
2009; the addition of family practices in Victor, Canandaigua, Shorts-
ville, Honeoye and Lima; the Thompson Clinic at CCIA, located in the
original hospital on North Main Street and serving the uninsured and
underinsured through a collaboration with Canandaigua Churches in
Action; and The Healthworks occupational medicine program; and
WHEREAS, Linda M. Farchione has fittingly been honored many times for
her contributions and service to her community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Linda M. Farchione, President and CEO of Thompson Health, of
Canandaigua, New York, upon the occasion of her retirement after 26
years of dedicated and distinguished service; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Linda M. Farchione.
