LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 10th Anniversary of Gibb
Mansion

WHEREAS, Organizations devoted to improving the quality of life for
others, enabling them to build lives of dignity and self-worth are
deserving of the highest praise and recognition; and
WHEREAS, From time to time, society calls upon these organizations to
be recognized for the significance of their contributions and efforts to
assist others in developing the skills necessary to be successful,
productive citizens; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commemorate the
10th Anniversary of Gibb Mansion; and
WHEREAS, Since its doors opened in 2002, Gibb Mansion has always been
more than just a supportive housing facility; it is a home, a respite,
and an oasis to those in extreme crisis, who are traumatized, stigma-
tized and estranged from society; and
WHEREAS, The men and women who benefit from this illustrious organiza-
tion suffer from homelessness, chronic illness, substance abuse and/or
mental illness, and are seeking to live full and healthy independent
lives; and
WHEREAS, Gibb Mansion was a once-deteriorated 1850s architectural gem
which Pratt Area Community Council (PACC), its umbrella agency, trans-
formed into a vibrant residential and community center with modern,
bright, affordable studio apartments that are the first steps toward
stability and independence; and
WHEREAS, Gibb Mansion contributes greatly to the ongoing development
and vibrancy of Bedford-Stuyvesant and surrounding neighborhoods; and
WHEREAS, For the past decade, Gibb Mansion's professional and compas-
sionate team has formed strong bonds with the residents, and has helped
them to achieve autonomy and balanced lives through the acquisition of
knowledge, skills and sustainable, healthy behaviors; and
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body that when organ-
izations of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 10th Anniversary of Gibb Mansion; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Gibb Mansion.
