LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the death of Mary Jane H. Doty, distin-
guished citizen and devoted member of her community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Mary Jane H. Doty of Owego, New York, died on Saturday, Janu-
ary 5, 2013, at the age of 76; and
WHEREAS, Mary Jane Doty graduated from Corning Free Academy in 1954
and went on to Mercyhurst College in Erie, Pennsylvania, where she grad-
uated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1958; and
WHEREAS, Mary Jane Doty distinguished herself in her profession and by
her sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the welfare of
her community; and
WHEREAS, Mary Jane Doty had a passion for teaching and taught at Owego
Free Academy in Owego, New York, for over 20 years, along with teaching
at Tioga Central, Newark Valley, Candor, and Union-Endicott Schools; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Mary Jane Doty was a private tutor; her nurtur-
ing ways and compassion were reflected in each of her students; and
WHEREAS, Mary Jane Doty's commitment to excellence, and her spirit of
humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, including charita-
ble and civic endeavors; and
WHEREAS, Mary Jane Doty was very active in St. Patrick's Church in
Owego where she was a Eucharistic Minister, and participated in Marriage
Encounter, Cursillo, and Life in the Spirit; and
WHEREAS, Mary Jane Doty was always praying and was known for giving to
others; she enjoyed spending time with her family, shopping, and read-
ing; and
WHEREAS, Predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Suzanna Hagedish, Mary
Jane Doty is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Thomas F. Doty;
children, Steve (Laurie) Doty, Susan (Steven) Murphy, and Thomas D.
(Kristine) Doty; and five grandchildren, Meghan R. and Jillian R. Doty,
Matthew and Kaitlyn Murphy, and Evan Thomas Doty; as well as one broth-
er, Thomas (Donna) Hagedish; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Mary Jane Doty leaves behind a legacy which will long endure
the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all she
served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Mary Jane H. Doty, distinguished citizen and devoted
member of her community, and to express its deepest condolences to her
family; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Mary Jane H. Doty.
