LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION memorializing Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to
proclaim September 21, 2013, as The Walk to End Alzheimer's Day in the
State of New York

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to memorialize Gover-
nor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim September 21, 2013, as The Walk to End
Alzheimer's Day in the State of New York, in conjunction with the
National Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's; and
WHEREAS, An initiative created to raise awareness and funds for
Alzheimer's care, support and research, the Binghamton Walk to End
Alzheimer's Day will take place Saturday, September 21, 2013, at Otsi-
ningo Park, Binghamton, New York; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body takes great pride in recognizing
certain events held in an effort to improve the quality of life of
others and designed to increase awareness of serious illnesses which
affect the lives of many New Yorkers; and
WHEREAS, The Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's is the
nation's largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer's
care, support and research; held annually in more than 600 communities
nationwide, this inspiring event calls on participants of all ages and
abilities to reclaim the future for millions; and
WHEREAS, Alzheimer's disease is the nation's sixth-leading cause of
death; Walk to End Alzheimer's unites the entire community including
family, friends, co-workers, social and religious groups and more, in a
display of combined strength and dedication in the fight against this
devastating disease; and
WHEREAS, The mission of The Alzheimer's Association is to eliminate
Alzheimer's disease through the advancement of research; to provide and
enhance support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia
through the promotion of brain health; its vision is a world without
Alzheimer's disease; and
WHEREAS, It is in the interest of New York State to recognize the
achievements made and to continue these efforts by promoting the aware-
ness and fostering the understanding of Alzheimer's disease; now, there-
fore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
memorialize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim September 21, 2013, as
The Walk to End Alzheimer's Day in the State of New York; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to The Honorable Andrew M. Cuomo, Governor of the State of New
York.
