LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Dr. Lee Tessler upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the Community Service Award by the Aleh
Foundation

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Dr. Lee
Tessler upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the Commu-
nity Service Award by the Aleh Foundation, to be celebrated at its 29th
Anniversary Awards Dinner Ceremony on Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at the
Museum of Jewish Heritage in New York City; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Lee Tessler is a Neurosurgeon who specializes in the
treatment of primary brain tumors, metastatic tumors, meningiomas, ster-
eotactic surgery, and radiosurgery; he earned his undergraduate degree
cum laude from Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, and completed
Post-Baccalaureate studies at University of California, Los Angeles,
California; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Lee Tessler obtained his medical degree at The Ohio State
University College of Medicine and Public Health, in Columbus, Ohio,
with Clinical Honors in Neurosurgery and General Surgery; at the Depart-
ment of Neurological Surgery, New York University Medical Center and
Bellevue Hospital Center in New York, Dr. Tessler served as an intern,
progressed to resident, and then became chief resident; and
WHEREAS, Previously, Dr. Lee Tessler worked at the University of
Florida's Center for Neurobiological Sciences; he obtained certification
in both Gamma Knife and Cyber Knife Radiosurgery; and
WHEREAS, In 2008, Dr. Lee Tessler was appointed as Assistant Professor
of Neurosurgery at NYU Medical Center; he is currently the Chief of
Neurotrauma and the Chairman of the Neurosurgery Quality Improvement
Committee at Winthrop University Hospital; and
WHEREAS, Most recently, Dr. Tessler was elected to serve as a member
of the Mercy Medical Center Executive Committee through 2010; he is a
member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the New
York Neurosurgical Society, and the Congress of Neurological Surgeons as
well as the AANS/CNS Joint Section on Tumors; and
WHEREAS, A true asset to society, Dr. Lee Tessler 's distinguished
record merits the recognition and respectful tribute of this Legislative
Body; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Dr. Lee Tessler upon the occasion of his designation as recipient
of the Community Service Award by the Aleh Foundation; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. Lee Tessler.
