LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the death of Chief Edward H. Lockwood,
distinguished citizen and devoted member of his community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, The firefighters of New York State are renowned throughout
the Nation; their reputation is synonymous with excellence in the ardu-
ous field of fire protection and prevention; and
WHEREAS, Chief Edward H. Lockwood of Glenwood Landing, New York, died
on Friday, January 25, 2013 at the age of 90; and
WHEREAS, Born on March 15, 1922, Edward H. Lockwood honorably served
his country during World War II as a member of the 824th and 691st tank
destroyer unit in the European Theater of Operations: Ardennes, Norman-
dy, North France, Central Europe and Rhineland; and
WHEREAS, Fire Chief Edward H. Lockwood ably served the Glenwood Fire
Department and his community as a 72-year member of the department; and
WHEREAS, Edward H. Lockwood distinguished himself in his profession
and by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the
welfare of his community; and
WHEREAS, Chief Edward H. Lockwood's commitment to excellence, and his
spirit of humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, includ-
ing charitable and civic endeavors; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Chief Edward H. Lockwood leaves behind a legacy which will
long endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory
to all he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Chief Edward H. Lockwood, distinguished citizen and
devoted member of his community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Chief Edward H. Lockwood.
