LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Thomas A. Glynn Jr. upon the occasion of
being named the Grand Marshal of the 16th Annual Rockville Centre St.
Patrick's Parade on March 23, 2013

WHEREAS, Saint Patrick's Day is a time for people of all nationalities
and generations to assemble and celebrate the rich culture and heritage
of the Irish people throughout these United States; and
WHEREAS, A Saint Patrick's parade reflects and records the ongoing
history of the United States and Ireland and highlights the many
contributions and historical accomplishments of the Irish community in
this diverse land; and
WHEREAS, Rockville Centre's St. Patrick's Parade was established on
March 22, 1997 and remains dedicated to promoting Irish heritage and
culture, family and patriotic values; to promoting and annually finan-
cially supporting a national, an Irish, and a Rockville Centre focused
charity; and to contributing to the good and welfare of the residents
and businesses of Rockville Centre; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Thomas A.
Glynn Jr. upon the occasion of his designation as the Grand Marshal of
the 16th Annual Rockville Centre St. Patrick's Parade on Saturday, March
23, 2013; and
WHEREAS, Thomas A. Glynn Jr., the fourth of the six children of the
late Thomas Glynn Sr. and Madeline Glynn, is a lifelong resident of
Rockville Centre; and
WHEREAS, After graduating from St. Agnes Elementary School and the
Mount St. Michael Academy in the Bronx, Thomas Glynn attended St. John's
University before graduating from the American Academy McAllister Insti-
tute of Funeral Service; and
WHEREAS, Tom and his beloved wife Eileen were married on June 24, 1967
and just celebrated their forty-fifth anniversary; they are the proud
and loving parents of five children: Eileen and her husband Michael
Ripa, Thomas III and his wife Claire, Madeline and the late Glenn
Fitzpatrick, John and his wife Erin, and Rockville Centre Village Trus-
tee Kevin Glynn and have also been blessed with seven grandchildren:
John, Michael, Jennifer, Emily, Anna, Grace and Maddie; and
WHEREAS, Thomas A. Glynn Jr. is a lifelong parishioner of St. Agnes
Cathedral where he serves as a Eucharistic Minister and Lector and where
he attends Mass every morning; he is a fourth degree member of the
Knights of Columbus Father Joseph O'Connell Council and is a longtime
member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians as well; and
WHEREAS, Thomas A. Glynn Jr. is, in addition, honored to serve the
residents of the Village of Rockville Centre as a fifty-one year member
of the Rockville Centre Fire Department, during which time he has served
in many capacities, including Chief of the Department; and
WHEREAS, Thomas A. Glynn Jr. is a valued member, as well, of the
Fourth Battalion Chiefs Association and the New York State Association
of Fire Chiefs; and
WHEREAS, He has served as a Rockville Centre Village Trustee and as a
Nassau County Legislator for the Fifth Legislative District and contin-
ues to serve his community and his neighbors as a member of the Rock-
ville Centre Lions Club, the Rockville Centre Community Fund, and as a
member of the Board of the Rockville Centre F.O.S.S.I. (Friends of
Senior Services Inc.); and
WHEREAS, Thomas A. Glynn Jr. believes, however, that his greatest
honor in service to his community is as the owner and manager of the
Thomas A. Glynn & Son Funeral Home in Rockville Centre, where he has

been appreciated and honored time and time again for his compassionate
service to the families of his beloved community; and
WHEREAS, Active in his profession as well as his community, Thomas A.
Glynn Jr. is a member of the Nassau-Suffolk Funeral Directors Associ-
ation, the New York State Funeral Directors Association, and the
National Funeral Directors Association; and
WHEREAS, Each year as we honor St. Patrick, whose life mirrored a deep
and abiding example of the challenges of sainthood, we are mindful of
the history of the Irish people and their struggle against oppression,
religious intolerance and political, social and economic barriers; and
WHEREAS, A St. Patrick's Parade celebrates the spirit, purity and
strength of the Irish Culture and its fine traditions and provides an
opportunity for people of all generations to assemble in ethnic pride
and pageantry; and
WHEREAS, A fitting choice to serve as a Grand Marshal of the 2013
Rockville Centre St. Patrick's Parade, Thomas A. Glynn Jr. embodies the
spirit and the cherished ideals and values of Irish-Americans of this
great State and Nation; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Thomas A. Glynn Jr. upon the occasion of being named the Grand
Marshal of the 16th Annual Rockville Centre St. Patrick's Parade on
March 23, 2013; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Thomas A. Glynn Jr.
