LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Turning Point Dairy upon the occa-
sion of its designation as a recipient of the Farm Safety Award and
attaining Century Farm recognition from the New York State Agricultural
Society

WHEREAS, The agricultural industry is part of the foundation upon which
our distinct American heritage is built; New York State and the entire
United States are dependent on our agricultural industry for a variety
of food products; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize the
milestones of those families which substantially contribute to the
economic vitality of their communities and the entire Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Turning Point Dairy upon the occasion of its designation as a
recipient of the Farm Safety Award and attaining Century Farm recogni-
tion from the New York State Agricultural Society; and
WHEREAS, The honors were presented at the Society's recent 181st annu-
al agricultural forum in Syracuse; located on Saratoga County Route 67,
the fourth-generation farm is owned and operated by Martin, Cathy,
Patrick and Sherry Hanehan, who received a commemorative plaque and a
monetary award from Cargill Inc.; and
WHEREAS, Turning Point Dairy, with 18 employees, has always had a
mission of safety first; a previous accident involving one of its trucks
prompted the owners to redouble their safety efforts on the farm; the
Hanehan Family hosts regularly scheduled safety meetings for all employ-
ees, whether they work outside in the field, indoors, caring for live-
stock, or part of the milking crew; and
WHEREAS, The Hanehan Family is not only committed to farm safety, but
also to the firefighters and first responders who are called in for farm
emergencies; Martin Hanehan is a volunteer firefighter and worked on a
training manual to educate first responders about the layouts of farms
in the area; the book, FARM EMERGENCY GUIDE FOR FIRE DEPARTMENTS, helps
to ensure first responder safety while they perform farm emergency
rescues; and
WHEREAS, The Turning Point farm safety program includes employee
classes, such as a pre-harvest class about harvest operations safety;
the training offers written protocols and a verbal safety class, includ-
ing bilingual instruction; and
WHEREAS, The Turning Point Dairy management team has established a
farm safety committee which conducts formal training and mentoring
programs with regular frequency, along with a safety inspection program;
and
WHEREAS, The Turning Point Dairy continues to change and expand with
the times, and is poised for success for many years to come; and
WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that this Legislative Body acknowl-
edges the success of this exceptional family and its contributions to
the local and State economies, fully confident that it will continue to
enjoy the sparkling successes it has experienced thus far; now, there-
fore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Turning Point Dairy upon the occasion of its designation as
a recipient of the Farm Safety Award and attaining Century Farm recogni-
tion from the New York State Agricultural Society; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Hanehan Family.
