LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Elisabeth Ryden Benjamin upon the occa-
sion of her designation as recipient of the Progressive Leadership Award
by the Citizen Action of New York

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Elisabeth Ryden Benjamin upon the occasion of her designation as recipi-
ent of the Progressive Leadership Award by the Citizen Action of New
York, to be celebrated at its Awards Gala on Tuesday, December 4, 2012;
and
WHEREAS, Citizen Action of New York works as part of U.S. Action to
build better futures for families and communities throughout the State
and nation; for 29 years, Citizen Action of New York has spearheaded
successful efforts to guarantee quality and affordable health care to
all, successful quality education and early learning programs and the
promotion of racial justice; and
WHEREAS, Citizen Action of New York is honoring Elisabeth Benjamin for
her incredible leadership on health policy and health care reform, not
only as Vice President of Health Initiatives for the Community Service
Society, but also as a founder of Community Health Advocates (CHA), and
as a co-founder with Citizen Action of the Health Care for All New York
Campaign (HCFANY), a statewide coalition of over 120 organizations
devoted to securing affordable, quality health Care for all New Yorkers;
and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is pleased to have this opportunity to
express its highest admiration for Elisabeth Benjamin and to wish her
continued success in all of her future endeavors; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Elisabeth Ryden Benjamin upon the occasion of her designation as
recipient of the Progressive Leadership Award by the Citizen Action of
New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Elisabeth Ryden Benjamin.
