LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Chris Shelton upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the Progressive Leadership Award by the
Citizen Action of New York

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Chris Shelton upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the
Progressive Leadership Award by the Citizen Action of New York, to be
celebrated at its Awards Gala on Tuesday, December 4, 2012; and
WHEREAS, Citizen Action of New York works as part of U.S. Action to
build better futures for families and communities throughout the State
and nation; for 29 years, Citizen Action of New York has spearheaded
successful efforts to guarantee quality and affordable health care to
all, successful quality education and early learning programs and the
promotion of racial justice; and
WHEREAS, Citizen Action of New York is honoring Chris Shelton as this
year's labor honoree because of his long record of great leadership with
CWA; he is also being recognized for his leadership in all of CWA's
bargaining disputes ranging from the New Jersey public workers, to Veri-
zon and to health care workers in upstate New York; and
WHEREAS, Chris Shelton has made CWA a leader in New York's labor-com-
munity coalition movement; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is pleased to have this opportunity to
express its highest admiration for Chris Shelton and to wish him contin-
ued success in all of his future endeavors; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Chris Shelton upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the Progressive Leadership Award by the Citizen Action of New York; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Chris Shelton.
