LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring James Gaughan and Keith Lee upon the
occasion of their designation for special recognition by the Altamont
Free Library on February 23, 2013

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, James Gaughan and Keith Lee have given not only of their time
and energies but also of their competence, intelligence and leadership
and consequently have been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor James Gaughan
and Keith Lee upon the occasion of their designation for special recog-
nition by the Altamont Free Library, to be celebrated at its I Love My
Library Gala Celebration on Saturday, February 23, 2013, at the Altamont
Community Room, Altamont, New York; and
WHEREAS, James Gaughan and Keith Lee have been called upon to contrib-
ute their time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors
and have always given of themselves unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Valued and involved members of their community, James Gaughan
and Keith Lee have fostered the historic preservation, community beauti-
fication and support of the Altamont Free Library for many years; and
WHEREAS, On this most auspicious occasion, Altamont Mayor James
Gaughan is being recognized for his ongoing support in preserving the
1897 Delaware & Hudson Train Station, new home to the Altamont Free
Library; and
WHEREAS, Through Mayor James Gaughan's dedicated and visionary leader-
ship, the Altamont Free Library has become a unique venue for cultural,
educational, and community events; and
WHEREAS, The preservation of the Train Station is one part of the
creation of a strong identity and pride of place that Mayor James
Gaughan has fostered in the Village; and
WHEREAS, Keith Lee is being honored by the Altamont Free Library for
his legacy of volunteerism and beautification that has helped to
preserve the unique character of Altamont; and
WHEREAS, Through countless hours of volunteer work, Keith Lee has been
instrumental in creating, maintaining and improving the gardens and
landscapes at Altamont's parks and public spaces for many years; and
WHEREAS, Moreover, Keith Lee spearheaded the effort to gather volun-
teers and master gardeners to prepare and plant the landscaping at the
new Library; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of their community service, a
period of constructive involvement, James Gaughan and Keith Lee have
stood constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by individuals
for the benefit of others which James Gaughan and Keith Lee have
displayed throughout their lives; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor James Gaughan and Keith Lee upon the occasion of their designation
for special recognition by the Altamont Free Library on February 23,
2013; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to James Gaughan and Keith Lee.
