LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Librada Paz upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the 2013 Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights
Award by the Rochester Institute of Technology

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Librada Paz has given not only of her time and energies but
also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently has
been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Librada Paz
upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the 2013 Robert F.
Kennedy Human Rights Award by the Rochester Institute of Technology; and
WHEREAS, Librada Paz endured difficult conditions to cross into the
United States at the young age of 15 to join her brothers in performing
difficult agricultural work; and
WHEREAS, Librada Paz survived traumatic experiences but, with the
support of her family, she rose to attend college and earn a degree in
mechanical engineering from the Rochester Institute of Technology; and
WHEREAS, Librada Paz utilized her education and became an advocate for
farm workers in New York State as well as nationwide, and founded the
Rural Migrant Ministry; and
WHEREAS; The Rural Migrant Ministry has provided invaluable services
for migrant workers, many of whom do not speak English and are not fully
aware of their rights, including education and literary services; and
WHEREAS, Today, Librada Paz continues to work toward expanding justice
and equality for migrant workers; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Librada Paz has displayed throughout
her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize Librada
Paz for her selfless dedication to improving the plight of others, never
forgetting her heritage and bringing crucial social services to those in
need; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Librada Paz upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the 2013 Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Award by the Rochester Institute
of Technology; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Librada Paz.
