LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Jennah Ferrari upon the occasion
of her designation as a Distinguished Finalist in the 18th Annual
Prudential Spirit of Community Awards

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend and pay
tribute to those youth of today, the leaders of tomorrow, whose charac-
ter and achievements exemplify the ideals and values cherished by this
Empire State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Jennah Ferrari of East Syracuse, New York, upon the occasion of her
designation as a Distinguished Finalist in the 18th Annual Prudential
Spirit of Community Awards; and
WHEREAS, Created in 1995 by Prudential Financial in partnership with
the National Association of Secondary School Principals, the Prudential
Spirit of Community Awards are designed to emphasize the importance of
service to others, and to encourage all young Americans to contribute to
the well-being of their communities; and
WHEREAS, The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program recognizes
young people across the United States for outstanding volunteer activ-
ities; more than 100,000 volunteers have been honored at the local,
state and national level since the program's beginning; and
WHEREAS, Jennah Ferrari was named a Top Youth Volunteer in New York
State for 2013 in the 18th Prudential Spirit of Community Awards based
on her commitment to service, personal initiative, effort, impact and
personal growth; and
WHEREAS, A sixth-grader at Pine Grove Middle School, Jennah Ferrari
organized and led a penny drive called "Pennies for Patients" that
raised a significant amount for cancer research; she brought together
more than 375 students to collect loose change for the important cause;
and
WHEREAS, In addition to her fundraising efforts, Jennah Ferrari has
regularly volunteered in her school library by monitoring the desk and
by helping students find materials and resolve computer problems; she
has even traveled to Albany to advocate for library funding, demonstrat-
ing her strong leadership skills and determination; and
WHEREAS, Volunteerism is an essential element of all societies; it
provides a way in which the human values of community, caring and serv-
ing can be sustained and strengthened; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge those
outstanding individuals within our communities whose volunteerism serves
as inspiration to their friends, family and peers; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
recognize and to congratulate Jennah Ferrari upon the occasion of her
designation as a Distinguished Finalist in the 18th Annual Prudential
Spirit of Community Awards, and to extend our wishes to her for a
purposeful and promising future; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Jennah Ferrari.
