LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 175th Anniversary Celebration
of the Town of South Bristol, New York

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize events of
significance which exemplify the history and development of the State of
New York; and
WHEREAS, Each and every city, town, village and hamlet within its
borders proudly resonates with the rich and noble history of the State
of New York; and
WHEREAS, It is also the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize
and commemorate the anniversary of the founding of municipalities
throughout the State, noting in turn their contributions to the fabric
and progression of this great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 175th Anniversary Celebration of the Town of South Bristol,
New York; this auspicious anniversary celebration will be commenced on
Saturday, March 9, 2013, at the South Bristol Town Hall; and
WHEREAS, South Bristol, New York, was part of the Phelps and Gorham
Purchase; settlement commenced in 1789; the Town of South Bristol was
established in 1838 from a partition of the Town of Bristol; and
WHEREAS, 2013 marks the 175th Anniversary of the establishment of the
Town of South Bristol, New York; and
WHEREAS, The celebration of the 175th Anniversary of the Town of South
Bristol will begin at the Town Hall open house from 9am to 12 noon on
Saturday, March 9, 2013; town officials will be on hand along with a
historical display; in addition, the town highway department will
display its newer equipment in the parking lot; and
WHEREAS, On May 18, 2013, a formal, gala dinner is planned at the
Cummings Nature Center as part of the town's 175th Anniversary Cele-
bration; on July 28, 2013, a picnic is planned at Bristol Mountain; and
WHEREAS, In addition, on October 5, 2013, the annual Hops dinner at
the old Grange will be an integral part of the 175th Anniversary Cele-
bration of the Town of South Bristol; and
WHEREAS, In recognition of the rich history and enduring contribution
of the Town of South Bristol to the heritage of the State of New York,
it is the intent of this Legislative Body to join in commemorating the
175th Anniversary Celebration of the Town of South Bristol so that pres-
ent and future generations may come to appreciate the unique signif-
icance which its history plays in the progression of our State and
Nation's evolution; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 175th Anniversary Celebration of the Town of South Bris-
tol, New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Town of South Bristol, New York.
