LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Tom MacLellan upon the occasion of his
designation as Deputy Marshal of the 20th Annual Bay Ridge St. Patrick's
Day Parade on March 24, 2013

WHEREAS, St. Patrick's Day is a time for people of all nationalities and
generations to assemble and celebrate the rich culture and heritage of
the Irish people throughout the United States; and
WHEREAS, A St. Patrick's Day parade reflects and records the ongoing
history of the United States and Ireland, and provides opportunity for
people of all generations to assemble in ethnic pride and pageantry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Tom
MacLellan upon the occasion of his designation as Deputy Marshal of the
20th Annual Bay Ridge St. Patrick's Day Parade to be held on Sunday,
March 24, 2013; and
WHEREAS, Tom MacLellan has been a resident of Brooklyn for 53 years;
he was baptized in Our Lady of Perpetual Help, and made his first holy
communion and confirmation at Our Lady of the Assumption; and
WHEREAS, In October of 1983, Tom MacLellan married his wife, Kathleen,
at St. Ephrem's Roman Catholic Church in Dyker Heights; they are the
proud parents of three beautiful daughters, Kelly, Caitlin and Meghan;
and
WHEREAS, The youngest child of the late Bill and Marilyn O'Hara
MacLellan, Tom traces his Irish roots through his mother and maternal
grandfather, Thomas Patrick O'Hara; and
WHEREAS, Tom MacLellan is a Veteran of the United States Navy, having
served on board the Aircraft Carrier USS John F. Kennedy (CV-67); he
credits his experience in the Navy as the most important life lesson he
ever learned; and
WHEREAS, Tom MacLellan is a retired employee of Verizon, formerly New
York Telephone, NYNEX and Bell Atlantic, where he began his career in
August of 1979; beginning in customer service and central office oper-
ations, he was promoted into the Business Marketing Organization where
he served as a Product Developer/Product Manager for data services which
services the top 100 accounts on Wall Street; and
WHEREAS, While in NYNEX's Marketing Organization, Tom MacLellan became
a business consultant to Junior Achievement of New York (JANY), a non-
profit organization that brings the business world and the education
world together; and
WHEREAS, Tom MacLellan taught Personal Economics to 7th and 8th grad-
ers for three years at McKinley Junior High School in Dyker Heights; and
WHEREAS, He was awarded the New York Junior Achievements President
Award on three separate occasions for raising a significant amount for
Junior Achievement; in 2009, he retired from Verizon; and
WHEREAS, Tom MacLellan is a former officer and current Board Member
and a Sir Knight of Thomas Dongan Knight of Columbus Council No. 1251 in
Bay Ridge; he has organized and chaired many activities including the
Annual Children's Christmas Party, the Annual St. Patrick's Day Dance,
and has participated as a committee member in the Blood Drive, the Boat
Ride for Exceptional Children, and the Annual John J. Maloney Golf
Outing; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Tom MacLellan has held numerous positions in his
parish of St. Ephrem's in Dyker Heights; he has volunteered many hours
in support of its youth in positions such as Assistant Basketball Coach,
softball coach and manager of the girls high school softball team; and
WHEREAS, Tom MacLellan also served as a Director of St. Ephrem's Teen
Center Executive Committee, and is a former President of the Evening

Student Council at Saint Francis College; he is an active member and
also served as president and board member of the Rockaway Point Associ-
ation (RPA) in Breezy Point, and an active member of the Rockaway
Point/Breezy Point Catholic Club; and
WHEREAS, Currently, Tom MacLellan serves as the Treasurer for Division
12 of the Ancient Order of Hibernians in Brooklyn, a position he has
held for four years; he believes volunteerism is the best way to share
one's talents in support of others; and
WHEREAS, A fitting choice for Deputy Marshal of the 20th Annual Bay
Ridge St. Patrick's Day Parade, Tom MacLellan embodies the spirit and
the cherished ideals and values of Irish-Americans of this great State
and Nation: and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Tom MacLellan upon the occasion of his designation as Deputy
Marshal of the 20th Annual Bay Ridge St. Patrick's Day Parade; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Tom MacLellan.
