LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Eileen Long Chelales upon the occasion
of her designation as Deputy Marshal of the 20th Annual Bay Ridge St.
Patrick's Day Parade on March 24, 2013

WHEREAS, St. Patrick's Day is a time for people of all nationalities and
generations to assemble and celebrate the rich culture and heritage of
the Irish people throughout the United States; and
WHEREAS, A St. Patrick's Day parade reflects and records the ongoing
history of the United States and Ireland, and provides opportunity for
people of all generations to assemble in ethnic pride and pageantry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Eileen Long Chelales upon the occasion of her designation as Deputy
Marshal of the 20th Annual Bay Ridge St. Patrick's Day Parade to be held
on Sunday, March 24, 2013; and
WHEREAS, Eileen Long Chelales is currently the Development Director
for Bishop Ford High School; she has served in numerous state and feder-
al positions; and
WHEREAS, Prior to her present position, Eileen Long Chelales served as
a Commissioner for the Unemployment Insurance Appeals Board for four
years; in 2004, she was appointed by President Bush to serve as the
Regional Administrator for the General Services Administration where she
was responsible for overseeing a large construction budget, 484 leases
and 84 federal buildings in New York, New Jersey, Puerto Rico and the
Caribbean; and
WHEREAS, Prior to working in the Bush administration, Eileen Long
Chelales worked for Governor George Pataki since his election in 1994;
she held numerous positions in the Pataki Administration including Depu-
ty Press Secretary, Chief Of Staff to the Lieutenant Governor, and later
as Deputy Secretary to the Governor where she was responsible for the
oversight of policy formation of 10 state agencies; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Eileen Long Chelales oversaw the executive budg-
et of the Governor's staff budget and the distribution of a significant
amount in funds to organizations throughout the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband, Joe, and their two
children, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of her life and
rejoice in her achievements; and
WHEREAS, A fitting choice for Deputy Marshal of the 20th Annual Bay
Ridge St. Patrick's Day Parade, Eileen Long Chelales embodies the spirit
and the cherished ideals and values of Irish-Americans of this great
State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Eileen Long Chelales upon the occasion of her designation as Depu-
ty Marshal of the 20th Annual Bay Ridge St. Patrick's Day Parade; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Eileen Long Chelales.
