LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Mary Murphy upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the 2013 Woman of Mercy Award by Mercy Home
for Children

WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to take note of and
publicly acknowledge individuals of remarkable integrity and character
who have inspired and brought pride to our majestic Empire State with
their strong contributions to the community and model citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Mary Murphy has given not only of her time and energies but
also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently has
been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Mary
Murphy upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the 2013
Woman of Mercy Award by Mercy Home for Children to be celebrated at its
Annual Partners in Mercy Luncheon on Sunday, April 21, 2013, at Russo's
on the Bay, Howard Beach, New York; and
WHEREAS, A veteran Investigative Reporter for WPIX Channel 11 News,
Mary Murphy is the quintessential New Yorker, born to Irish immigrants
and raised in Queens, New York; and
WHEREAS, She attended Our Lady of Lourdes Elementary School, Delehanty
High School and Queens College where she graduated magna cum laude; and
WHEREAS, Mary Murphy interned at WCBS-TV and later became a field
reporter before heading over to WPIX Channel 11 where she anchored the
weekend news for 14 years before returning to full-time investigative
reporting; and
WHEREAS, This extraordinary woman has received a total of 18 Emmys and
has covered a wide range of stories including the elevation of Archbish-
op Timothy Dolan; and
WHEREAS, In 2012, Mary Murphy collaborated with Mercy Home to produce
the 150th Anniversary Video and two segments which aired on the WPIX
Morning Show; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband, and her son, both
of whom feel privileged to be a part of her life and rejoice in her
achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is pleased to have this opportunity to
express its highest admiration for Mary Murphy and to wish her continued
success in all her future endeavors; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Mary Murphy upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the 2013 Woman of Mercy Award by Mercy Home for Children; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Mary Murphy.
