Citizens on Patrol puts 16 more eyes on the streets of Wellsville

WELLSVILLE -

There were 16 more eyes helping the three regular police officers keep watch on Main Street Friday night. Eight Citizens on Patrol of Wellsville (COPOW) volunteers who say they want to “deliver a knockout punch to crime in Wellsville” took part.

After a kickoff attended by local businessmen, law enforcement personnel, school officials and state Sen. Catharine Young, R-Olean, the inaugural COPOW patrol hit the sidewalks. Two patrols were scheduled, one from 8 to 10 p.m. and one from 10 p.m. to midnight Friday.
