GETTING THE FACTS ON FRACKING
Senator Ball, Josh Fox Host GASLAND Screening in Peekskill
Brewster, N.Y. – (10/15/11) – As he continues to Get the Facts on Fracking, Senator Greg Ball (R, C – Patterson) is hosting a screening of the film GASLAND in Peekskill, N.Y. The Senator will be joined by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Josh Fox for the viewing, which is free and open to the public. The screening is just the latest in the Senator’s efforts to educate the public and himself about the potentially devastating effects of hydraulic fracturing in New York.
In August, Senator Ball joined Fox for a tour of Bradford County, Pennsylvania where he witnessed firsthand the effects hydrofracking can have on communities. He is now urging Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and his colleagues in the state legislature to take a similar tour before allowing gas companies to begin the hydrofracking process in New York.
Senator Ball is also calling on Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to immediately extend the public comment period on hydrofracking to 180 days. Ball has introduced the Property Owner’s Bill of Rights (S5879), which would set tough, new standards for safe hydrofracking in New York.
