Dutchess and Columbia County taxpayers will suffer a loss of $28.7 million now that the STAR rebate checks have been eliminated by the Democrat leadership in the 2009-2010 State Budget.
The STAR rebate program was a Senate Republican priority which, as the Chairman of the Senate Education Committee, I announced in December of 2004 and which we succeeded in passing into law several months later.
Property taxpayers, depending on their school district and household income, will lose nearly $200 to just under $600 each year now that the rebate checks have been eliminated.
My Senate Republican colleagues and I fought hard to keep these rebate checks flowing, knowing how important they were to property taxpayers. Unfortunately, under the state’s new leadership, STAR Rebate Checks were eliminated and the need for property tax relief was ignored. Please join the fight and sign my petition to let the Governor and the State Democrat leadership know that the STAR Rebate Checks must be a priority.
