Bob Williams of Lewisboro, a World War II veteran, will be inducted into the first class of the 40th Senate District’s Veterans’ Hall of Fame, at a celebration in Carmel on Thursday.

Mr. Williams was nominated by Town Supervisor Charles Duffy and will be inducted by State Senator Greg Ball.

Mr. Williams was a private who served in the 45th Infantry Division participating in the invasion of Sicily. As a machine gunner, he fought his way through Italy and Europe. While most combat infantry companies had extremely high casualty rates, Mr. Williams fought on almost a daily basis for two years during Word War II.

After the war, Mr. Williams ran a small business which employed more than a dozen people. He has volunteered with the Veterans’ Administration and worked with students at John Jay Middle School and the Katonah-Lewisboro elementary schools. He is an active member of Lewisboro Senior Adults, where he is also a volunteer. He is a member of Mensa.

In all, 27 veterans from the 40th Senate District will be honored for their military service. Sen. Ball will be establishing a Traveling 40th Senate District Veterans’ Hall of Fame Wall which will honor each of the 27 veterans locally. One member from this first class of Hall of Fame inductees will be chosen for induction into the New York State Veterans’ Hall of Fame.
