SOUTHEAST — The Brewster school district is receiving a $100,000 state grant to help it rebuild the high school’s outdoor track off Foggintown Road.

State Sen. Greg Ball, R-Patterson, worked to secure the money and will present a check at tonight’s Brewster Sports Foundation 2012 Gala.

“On behalf of the Brewster Sports Foundation I would like to thank Senator Ball,” foundation president John Frates said. “We are honored to participate with Senator Ball in utilizing state funds along with private funds to restore the outdoor track at Brewster High School.”

The money will go toward the track’s $250,000 renovation. Frates said the rest of the money will come through private fund raising.

“In this economy, it’s critical that we do not pass this type of expense onto homeowners,” Ball said. “I also know that the lessons learned on the athletic field are just as important as those learned in the classroom. I support this investment and will continue pushing for projects that make our communities strong.”
