MID HUDSON NEWS: BALL RENEWS CALL FOR COP KILLER LEGISLATION IN WAKE OF NYPD OFFICER SLAYING

BREWSTER – State Senator Gregory Ball (R-Patterson), chairman of the Senate’s Homeland Security Committee, called for the reinstatement of the death penalty in cases involving the intentional murder of a police officer, peace officer or a Department of Corrections employee.
Ball’s call comes following the Monday morning fatal shooting of NYPD Officer Peter Figoski in Brooklyn.
“We’ve got to make sure that if you kill a cop, New York State will return in kind and we will take your life,” he said Tuesday. “We need this cop killer legislation passed and I am going to ask that it be passed as soon as we get back in January. I have been fighting for this for a while and it’s horrific; it rips your heart out every time you see one of these brave men and women lose their lives in service to the state.”
In 2004, New York Court of Appeals ruling established the procedure for imposing the death penalty was flawed. (READ MORE)
