Senator Ball Joins Oscar-Nominated Filmmaker for Fracking Tour
Brewster, N.Y. – (08/16/11) – From quarantined cattle to contaminated water wells, it was an eye-opening weekend for Senator Greg Ball (R, C – Patterson), who joined Oscar-nominated filmmaker Josh Fox for a tour and taping of Pennsylvania communities that have been affected by hydraulic fracturing. Senator Ball, who is hosting a hearing next week entitled, “Getting the Facts on Fracking,” accompanied Fox on a fact-finding mission and taping for the documentary GASLAND 2, a series focusing on the effects “hydrofracking” or “fracking” has had on people, animals, communities, the environment and the economy.
“I want nothing more than to create jobs in New York. But I will not roll out the red carpet for companies that are not willing to be held accountable,” said Senator Ball as he referenced the lack of oversight and environmental protections at fracking sites in Pennsylvania. “I saw beautiful communities booming with economic activity. I also heard horror stories from families and farmers who’ve suffered health problems, lost livestock and seen a 90 percent devaluation of their homes and properties,” added Ball. (ARTICLE)
