POUGHKEEPSIE JOURNAL: AMENIA GETS $100,000 FOR TRAIL TO TRAIN WORK

AMENIA — The town has obtained a $100,000 state grant for the Trail to the Train Project. The state funding, secured by Sen. Greg Ball, R-Patterson, Putnam County, will help the town meet its goal of extending the Harlem Valley Rail Trail 3,500 feet southward from the Wassaic Metro-North station into the historic hamlet of Wassaic. Councilwoman Vicki Doyle said the project is expected to cost approximately $800,000. Officials are hoping to break ground on the project by the summer of 2012, once the engineering, design and right-of-way work are completed. The town is in the process of completing a design agreement with WSP Sells of Briarcliff Manor, Westchester County. (LOCAL BRIEFS)
