Senator Alesi Announces $15,000 Grant To Support The Humane Society At Lollypop Farm

Senator Jim Alesi (R- Perinton) recently announced that he has secures $15,000 for the Humane Society at Lollypop Farm. The Senator was on hand for the 2007 Patron Member Reception this past Sunday and presented the check to Alice Calabrese-Smith, President of Lollypop Farm.

"As an animal lover myself, I have always made it a priority to ensure the safety and well-being of all animals," said Senator Alesi. "I hope that this funding will aid the Humane Society at Lollypop Farm with their mission to build lifelong bonds between people and animals through education, community outreach programs and the prevention of cruelty."

The funding secured by Senator Alesi will help purchase veterinary supplies and vaccinations for the Lollypop Farm in-house clinic in order to treat abused and/or homeless animals before they are adopted to local residents. This helps ensure the health of their new pets and decreases the expense of veterinary care for newly adopted pets.

In the past, Senator Alesi has sponsored legislation that would stiffen the penalty for those convicted of torturing or otherwise harming guide, rescue, and other "service" dogs. In addition, he was pleased to support measures passed by the Legislature that require those convicted of "aggravated cruelty to animals" to forfeit their animals, as well as establish more stringent regulations for licensing of pet dealers.
