Senator Dilan Announces Free Summer Lunches For Children
The DOE is expanding its School Support program to provide children with access to nutritious meals all year long. The purpose is not only to provide free meals to youngsters, but also to teach them about the importance of eating nutritiously to combat obesity.
“I am happy to announce this expanded program for our City’s youth. It is critically important that youngsters have access to nutritious meals on a daily basis and I commend the Department of Education for their efforts to make this a reality,” Senator Dilan said.
The newly expanded summer meals program is offered to anyone age 19 and younger. The children do not need to be enrolled in summer school or be a student of the school where the meals are provided and there is no application required.
families may also call 311 to find out the nearest open site where meals are being offered.
