Senator Fuschillo Congratulates Massapequa Park Eagle Scout

Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) recently welcomed Massapequa Park resident Toby Ring to his district office to congratulate him on becoming an Eagle Scout. Toby is a member of Boy Scout Troop 660 and will be entering his junior year of high school this fall.

The rank of Eagle Scout is the highest award that a boy scout can achieve. It is a performance based award that requires a scout to earn at least 21 merit badges, hold at least one leadership position within his troop, pass a series of tests, and organize and complete a service project.

For his Eagle Scout project, Toby helped to bring broad band Internet access to Congregation Beth-El in Massapequa. He began by researching the different plans offered by the various Internet service providers, and then submitted his suggestion to the Temple’s Executive Board.

After the Executive Board approved his plan, Toby solicited donations for equipment to help network the computers once the service was operational. With the help of some of his fellow scouts, he ran the necessary wires from one side of the building to the other so that all the computers could be connected to the high speed equipment. The service was then installed by the Internet service provider, and has been successfully used by clergy, staff, and students ever since.

"Only five percent of all boys who join scouting will achieve the lofty goal of becoming an Eagle Scout. Through hard work and dedication, Toby earned a place among a highly select group of people. We are all very proud of Toby, and I am certain that this is just the first of many great things that he will accomplish in the future," said Senator Fuschillo.
