State Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) recently presented James C. Brown, a veteran from Farmingdale, with the New York State Conspicuous Service Cross and the New York State Conspicuous Service Star.

“On three separate occasions, Mr. Brown answered the call of duty by entering the armed forces to defend our country. His over twenty years of dedicated service to our nation, first as a member of the Army and later as an Air Force Technical Sergeant, make him deserving of our respect and gratitude. I congratulate him on earning these awards and thank him for the sacrifices he made while defending our freedom,” said Senator Fuschillo.

Mr. Brown’s military service began during World War II as a member of the United States Army. He was discharged after the war, but re-elinsted in 1946 and served until September of 1952. After a short break in service, Mr. Brown joined the United States Air Force, where he served from October of 1952 until 1964, attaining the rank of Technical Sergeant.

A decorated veteran, Mr. Brown previously earned the Bronze Star Medal; the Air Force Commendation Medal with one oak leaf cluster; the Purple Heart; the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award; the Good Conduct Medal with 5 bronze loops; the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal; the World War II Victory Medal; the Army Occupation Medal (Japan); the National Defense Service Medal; the Korean Service Medal; the Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon with 5 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters;  the United Nations Service Medal; and the Combat Infantryman’s Badge.

The Conspicuous Service Cross is offered by New York State to acknowledge recipients of various military honors, including the Bronze Star and Purple Heart, or those who were prisoners of war, at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, directly participated in the D-day invasion of Normandy on June 6, 1944, or have been declared missing in action or killed in action by the Department of Defense.

The New York State Conspicuous Service Star recognizes current and former members of the United States Armed Forces who were recipients of unit commendations from combat.

Senator Fuschillo is continually accepting applications for New York State military medals from veterans and their families. Anyone who would like more information about the military medals offered by New York State can call Senator Fuschillo’s office at 516-882-0630 or click HERE.
