Senator Parker And Attorney General Cuomo Highlights The Dangers Of The Internet
New Internet Safety Web Content Provides Valuable Information for Teens, Parents, and Educators
Brooklyn, NY- Senator Parker in conjunction with the office of New York State Attorney General Cuomo led a presentation on Internet safety at the Flatbush YMCA. The presentation was designed to assist parents in making informed decisions on utilizing online safety tools.
“Our children are being played upon the Internet more these days and we, parents, community organizers, and leaders in government should work together to solve online safety issues,” said Senator Parker. This presentation gives everyone the information they need to make smart decisions about the websites their children visits.”
The presentation provided guidelines for parents, including:
· Set rules for how much time your children can spend online what programs they can use, what sites they can visit, and who they can talk to.
· Teach kids to protect their identity and their reputation by keeping personal information (name, age, birth date, location) private.
· Most importantly, talk to your kids about their online experiences and the dangers out there. Encourage them to tell a trusted adult if anything makes them uncomfortable.
The Attorney General’s office provided members with a brochure titled “Your Child’s D.I.G.I.T.A.L Life” and the information was provided in collaboration with The Netsmartz Workshop. For more information on learning about internet safety visit http://www.NetSmartz411.org.
