Senator Shirley Huntley Encourages New Yorkers To “Say Thanks” To Soldiers Overseas

Program sends free personalized postcards to troops

State Senator Shirley Huntely (D-Queens) is getting out the word on "Let's Say Thanks," a program that gives citizens the opportunity to send a printed postcard to U.S. military personnel stationed around the world, free of charge.

"A simple thank you to our brave men and women fighting overseas will go a long way this holiday season to give them the support they need. These people have made the ultimate sacrifice and need to know they are in our hearts and minds, and what better way to do that than tell them," said Senator Huntely. "As hectic as this time of year can get, it takes only a moment to acknowledge our soldiers and their sacrifice."

Lets Say Thanks offers dozens of cover designs, created by children ages 3 to 14, on its website. After first selecting a design, a written message can be added and the colorful postcard will be printed and sent to a member of the U.S. armed forces.

Created by the Xerox Corp., Let's Say Thanks has exceeded expectations with millions of postcards being sent to U.S. troops stationed around the world. The program continues to gain popularity and success through celebrity-supporters such as George Lopez, Wayne Newton, and Phyllis Diller.

"In less time than it takes to catch up on your email, you can let our troops know their service and sacrifice are not forgotten this holiday season. Be sure to take a moment and visit www.LetsSayThanks.com," concluded Senator Huntely.
