Statement From NYS Senate Deputy Majority Leader Dean G. Skelos (r-rockville Centre) Regarding The Enactment Of The Adam Walsh Children’s Safety And Violent Crime Reduction Act Of 2006

New York State’s ability to monitor convicted sex offenders, utilize DNA evidence and protect our children from pedophiles and other sexual predators.  The Children’s Safety and Violent Crime Reduction Act builds upon many of the State Senate’s longstanding priorities and provides real penalties for the Assembly’s failure to act on these lifesaving measures.  In addition, it provides new incentives for states to implement GPS tracking of sex offenders, tougher sentencing requirements and new tools to combat the gang violence that plagues too many of our communities.

As the original author of Megan’s Law, I am preparing legislation to ensure that New York State complies with these federal standards and I will fight to enact it into law during the forthcoming legislative session.
