Ranzenhofer celebrates Purple Heart "Forever" stamp
Clarence, N.Y. – State Senator Michael H. Ranzenhofer presents a poster, commemorating the introduction of the Purple Heart stamp as a Forever stamp, to members of the Clarence American Legion – Post 838. The United States Postal Service officially unveiled and issued the Purple Heart Forever stamp yesterday in San Diego, California.
In 2009, Senator Ranzenhofer wrote to Postmaster General John Potter and co-sponsored a legislative resolution requesting the U.S. Postal Service issue the Purple Heart stamp as a permanent Forever stamp. The new classification ensures the Purple Heart stamp will continue in circulation and supporters will no longer need to advocate to for its reissue each time the price of stamps increases.
The Purple Heart is awarded in the name of the President of the United States to members of the military who have been wounded or killed in action.
