Carmel, N.Y. – (11/10/11) – Twenty-seven veterans from throughout the Hudson Valley were honored at Senator Greg Ball (R, C – Patterson) Veterans’ Hall of Fame. Each city, town and village within the Senator’s district was asked to nominate a veteran to be honored at the Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony held on Thursday night.

On the 236th birthday of the United States Marine Corps Hundreds of friends, family, elected officials and members of the community packed into The Putnam Valley Emergency Services Center. They came to watch the ceremony and to congratulate Americas bravest for their services and commitment to our country.

Created and hosted by Senator Ball, the Veterans’ Hall of Fame is designed to honor outstanding veterans from throughout the 40th Senate District. Each veteran that was honored will be included on a traveling wall that will tour local municipalities throughout the 40th district.
During Thursday nights ceremony Senator Ball said, “The Veterans who are here today were nominated by their communities, hand-picked because they chose a path of courage, honor, integrity and bravery; a path that helped shape America as we know it, protecting our way of life and liberty”.

Fred Campisano who opened the ceremonies with the singing of the national anthem said, “The hall of fame has been a great event. Senator Ball has done a wonderful job in continuing this work of making sure that our country never forgets the sacrifices and the blood that has been shed for our country”.

“I am at a loss of words. I am very honored to be in the presence of such great gentlemen and feel very honored to have served my country. I thank you so much for honoring me tonight,” said Specialist Duke Searles who was the city of Peekskill’s nominee for the hall of fame.

Staff Sergeant Bert Gonci who was reluctant to accept his nomination said, “It is the families of the soldiers who made that sacrifice that should be honored and it is the soldiers that are returning home from Iraq and Afghanistan missing legs and arms that should be honored”.
