ADDABBO’S SECOND ELECTRONICS RECYCLING DAY PICKS UP OVER 8 TONS

3,685 More Pounds than First eWaste Collection Day in January

Queens, NY, September 21, 2010 – NYS Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr., today announced that over eight (8) tons of electronics, or e-waste, were collected for recycling at his second eWaste Collection Day held on Sunday, September 19, in Marshal Lot, adjacent to The Shops at Atlas Park in Glendale. Some 215 participants showed up with their old, unwanted electronics:  computers, monitors, keyboards, cameras, cell phones, PDA’s, printers, shredders and components, TV’s and telephones. According to Fred J. Dufek, President/CEO and Managing Director of event partner e-Green Management, LLC, their three large trucks and 7-man collection team were parked in the lot 5 hours that day to pick up the electronic items. Dufek
called the effort “truly outstanding, one of their top collection events.” He commended Senator Addabbo and his staff for “...a tremendous job informing the public. It was something for Queens to be proud of…these products otherwise would be in our landfills, creating the worst health results for all.”

From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Addabbo greeted drivers as they pulled into the lot with cars and vans full of items, some traveling from distant Brooklyn and Long Island, with most coming from surrounding communities. The e-Green staff loaded up an astonishing 16,119 pounds of e-waste for responsible recycling, including 83 TV’s, 89 CRT
monitors, in addition to the other items.

“I’m grateful to have been given the opportunity to host another such event for my residents so that they may conveniently and properly dispose of their electronics. Based on the success of this event, I expect to have another electronic recycling event next year, probably in a different part of the district,” Addabbo said.

The Senator and his staff were delighted with the response to the recycling event. “We had a steady stream of people coming through all day.  I plan to hold another recycling day in several months, perhaps next spring,” noted Peter DeLucia, event director on the Senator’s staff.
