American Red Cross Move In Assistance Program Application Deadline July 1, 2014

 

    This is the weekly reminder that the American Red Cross Move-In Assistance Program (MIAP) will be winding down over the next few months.

     

    The program was established in December 2012 and has served as a bridge for thousands of families that needed financial assistance to relocate from hotels to sustainable housing, move out of state or complete repairs on their Sandy-damaged homes. As of May 28, 2014 the program has provided more than $26 million to more than 4,300 households. Because we expect that the program’s funding will soon be depleted, we are implementing the wind down process outlined below.

     

    July 1, 2014 deadline for submitting completed Move-In Assistance Program applications

    The deadline for submitting completed applications is July 1, 2014. We will continue to accept and process applications in the order they are received. Completed applications received by July 1 will be reviewed and processed as program funding allows. In anticipation of an increase in applications to the program, we will accept only one application per household, not multiple applications for assistance. The Red Cross will continue to work with referring case managers to expedite assistance to people in urgent need of financial assistance to address their housing needs.

     

    Other direct financial assistance remains available

    The Red Cross is supporting direct financial assistance to Sandy-affected households through $13.8 million in grants to unmet needs roundtables and long-term recovery groups in the New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut communities that experienced the greatest devastation from Sandy. As you know, unmet needs roundtables and long-term recovery groups benefit from the support and long-term involvement of many different funders, including the United Way, Salvation Army, Catholic Charities and Home Depot. Red Cross grant support will help ensure that these groups remain a key source of financial assistance to meet the longer-term needs Sandy-affected households will face.

     

    Guidance identifying community resources

    We have comprehensive listings of the sources of financial assistance for Sandy-affected households by state. Should a case management agency lack information on financial assistance resources, we encourage them to call 1-877-RED CROSS. In addition, the Red Cross staff continues to provide direct case management and community recovery services in Sandy-affected regions through the end of 2014.
