Albany, N.Y. – (6/06/12) – Senator Greg Ball (R,C-Patterson) and  Assemblyman Jim Tedisco (R,C,I-Schenectady-Saratoga) are hosting the 2nd annual New York State Animal Advocacy Day on June 13th in Albany, N.Y.

New York State Animal Advocacy Day, which will be held at the Well of the Legislative Office Building, is a day for legislators from both sides of the aisle and animal supporters to network and share information and then lobby their legislators to protect our animals and strengthen animal cruelty laws.

“Persons who commit crimes against animals are the worst kind of people, the level of respect and kindness shown for an animal, creatures who cannot speak for themselves, or protect themselves and are easily abused and taken advantage of, is a fine predictor of how a person will treat their peers, said Senator Greg Ball. “Violent and cruel behavior towards animals, cannot and should not be tolerated.”

Senator Greg Ball is working to pass two pieces of legislation. The first, (S7268A) will improve the health and quality of life of animals by providing duly licensed pet dealers with updated standards of care. The second piece of legislation, (S3804A) will require each violator of “Buster’s Law” to register his or her name and address with the department of agriculture and markets.

“Most of the lobbyists who walk the halls of Albany are paid but animal advocates are not. They are volunteers who care about protecting our pets and all members of our families. Animal Advocacy is purely a people and paw-powered event that’s about keeping all members of our families safe,” said Assemblyman Tedisco, former Minority Leader and current Assistant Minority Whip, who has two cats and two dogs.

Last year’s Animal Advocacy Day drew in over 500 animal advocates from all across New York State. Some of the great guest speakers included members of the reality TV show, “Rescue Ink” and Steve Caporrizo, host of ABC News 10’s Pet Connection.

This year several celebrity guests have confirmed their attendance including Prince Lorenzo Borghese, entrepreneur and animal advocate, who is best known as the star from Season 9 of the hit ABC TV show “The Bachelor.” There will also be an appearance from acting dog Bocker the Labradoodle, who has appeared in “Men in Black 3”, “Eat Pray Love” and “War of the Worlds”.
