BREAKING NEWS: SENATOR GREG BALL ANNOUNCES START DATE OF RT. 22 PHASE II EXPANSION PROJECTS IN BREWSTER
Brewster, N.Y. – 9/27/2012 – Senator Greg Ball (Patterson – R, C) is now happy to announce that the Department of Transportation is expected to begin phase two of the Route 22 expansion project December of this year.
“Working with local partners, and after years of inaction, we were able to deliver the first phased expansion of Route 22 to ease the flow of traffic. Getting that done was a huge improvement, but the expansion must continue. This next phased expansion is intended to remove the current bottle neck now occurring further south and can’t happen soon enough. As someone who sits in the traffic daily, this project is welcomed and is desperately needed for the residents of Brewster and for those that travel the on Route 22,” said Senator Greg Ball. “I am so happy to see that this project is coming to fruition.”
The purpose of the Route 22 project is to provide cost-effective interim improvements to a highly congested section of Route 22, focusing on reducing congestion and increasing safety. This will be accomplished by a minor realignment of the Route 22/Milltown Road intersection, installing a new traffic signal and pavement widening to provide additional lanes north and south of the intersection. Milltown Road will also be modified to have a double left turn, allowing more cars to turn onto Route 22.
The project will begin approximately 1,000 feet south of the Milltown Road intersection and will extend north of the intersection approximately 1,000 feet. Similar to the Route 22/ 312 interim improvement project, this project is an interim operational improvement project, which will address some of the routine congestion in the Milltown Road area.
The letting date of the project is December 13th and construction is expected to start early 2013.
