Brewster, Staff Sgt. Steven Mattson
In January of 2001, Mr. Mattson left his job on Wall Street and joined the U.S. Marine Corps. In 2004 Sergeant Mattson served as Sergeant Guard for Force Protection at the Ornance Compound at Al Asad Airbase in Iraq. Shortly after returning from Iraq, Sergeant Mattson became a member of the Brewster VFW, and is very involved in his community, serving as a Den Leader for the Boy Scouts, Board Member of the Putnam County Land Trust and the Town Historian for Southeast.
“It is my pleasure to accept the nomination of Staff Sergeant Steven Mattson into the Veterans’ Hall of Fame. Steven has selflessly served our country in Iraq and upon his return has continued to serve through his community service and his “Adventures Around Putnam” initiative,” said Senator Greg Ball. “America is not a great country because of its politicians, it’s a great country because of its veterans like Steven.”
“The best part of being nominated for this award is the message it sends my kids. They see by my example that it is important to give back to the community, and veterans have a special place within our community,” said Mattson.
