Pleasantville, N.Y. – (6/18/13) – Senator Greg Ball (R,C,I-Patterson) announced that Sarah Raphael of Briarcliff Manor has won the 2013 New York State Senate Earth Day Poster Contest.
The Earth Day Poster competition was a creative way for young students to learn about the values and principles of Earth Day, and demonstrate their commitment to the cause. The theme of this year’s contest was “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.” Each entry displayed tremendous originality in portraying this important message.
“Earth Day is a time to recognize the great strides New York has made in helping to improve our environment and preserve our most cherished natural resources,” said Senator Greg Ball. “I am so proud of Sarah for her great work and for her dedication and commitment to our environment. She is a testament to her parents and to the wonderful educators we have in our community who teach our children to be good stewards of the environment.”
Sarah is in 6th grade at Briarcliff Middle School where she is a straight-A student who loves to learn. In her free time she loves dance and is a member of the Westchester Ballet Company that performs The Nutcracker annually at the Westchester County Center, along with other performances. But like most kids her age, she also likes to mix it up a bit with the town’s swim team in the summer and also the lacrosse team.
