Fundraiser for LCpl John Curtin Raises More Than $10K



CARMEL, NY (5/20/2011) – Senator Greg Ball (R, C – Patterson) announced that Friday’s fundraiser for LCpl John Curtin, held at the Carmel VFW Hall, raised more than $10,000 for the Curtin family with more than 200 attendees.

LCpl Curtin was wounded in Afghanistan in February 2011 and was awarded the Purple Heart. He is currently undergoing rehabilitation at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. More than 200 people from Dutchess, Putnam, and Westchester Counties attended the event, and all proceeds go to LCpl Curtin and his family for medical and travel expenses not covered by the Marines.

As Chairman of the Senate Committee on Veterans, Homeland Security, and Military Affairs, Senator Greg Ball has sponsored and passed through the Senate important veteran legislation, including S2422, the New York State Veterans Health Insurance Act. During the 2011-2012 budget process, Senator Ball successfully restored $11.4 Million in funding to Veterans, including $10.9 Million to the New York State Veterans Homes located at Montrose, Oxford, Stony Brook, Batavia, and New York City.
