Grisanti And Ryan Announce State Library Construction Grant For Hamburg Public Library

New York State Senator Mark Grisanti and New York State Assemblyman Sean Ryan announced that the Hamburg Public Library will receive a New York State Library Construction Grant of $449,399. Funding for this grant was included in the state budget passed earlier this year. Libraries across the state applied for competitive construction grants that could fund up to 75 percent of the cost for a project. The minimum grant award was $2,500. The funding is awarded by the New York State Department of Education, Division of Library Development.

The funding provided to the Hamburg Public Library will be used to continue the work to build a 6,590 sq. ft. addition to the library to meet accessibility needs for the disabled. The funding will also be used to create a meeting space and coffee shop, and increase capacity to meet patron needs for seating, computer use and research. The project is now in year two. The first year focused on demolition and site preparation, and construction of the new addition began earlier this year.

Senator Mark Grisanti said, "Public libraries play an important role in our communities and the Hamburg Public Library is a gem that I am glad will be revitalized and revamped in order to provide sources of information and entertainment for my constituents. The addition and redesign of the facility is going to change the way Hamburg residents and visitors use their library. The state funding will help the library become a technology hub, a meeting place and a destination for years to come."

Assemblyman Ryan said, "This new round of funding from New York State will help to continue the great work that is being done to improve the infrastructure of the Hamburg library. The accessibility upgrades will allow the library to continue their mission of serving the public's educational needs. The new state-of-the-art facility will include critical upgrades that will be welcome news to library patrons with disabilities. In addition, the new meeting space and coffee shop will be a great destination for Hamburg residents, and will help to further integrate this important public asset into the surrounding Hamburg community."
