HUDSON VALLEY REPORTER: BALL SLATES THIRD COMMON CORE FORUM AT POUGHKEEPSIE’S OUR LADY OF LOURDES HIGH SCHOOL

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Our Lady of Lourdes High School will host a Common Core Forum in conjunction with Senator Greg Ball (R, C, I – Patterson) on Monday, Feb. 24, at 6 p.m. Parents, students, educators and concerned residents are invited to attend.
Ball hosted a Common Core Community Forum at the Carmel Town Hall on Jan. 16 and over 200 parents, students and educators attended to voice their concerns over the new standards. Ball also hosted a student-based workshop at Lakeland Copper Beech Middle School in Westchester County last week to hear students’ point of view on Common Core.
Ball, in partnership with three other state lawmakers, currently has a bill that calls for an immediate three-year moratorium on the new standards until the issues can be resolved. He has also launched a petition to stop Common Core in New York on his Senate website that he says has garnered over 5,200 signatures.
“According to the federal government, Common Core was designed to provide a uniformed standard for students, preparing them for college and careers. Regardless of the good intentions, Common Core has become an uncommon disaster,” Ball said.
The attendees at the Lady of Lourdes forum will be given a chance to speak, but will be asked to limit their remarks to three minutes.
