MAHOPAC, N.Y. –Planning is underway for the 3rd Annual Veteran’s Thanksgiving Dinner The free event, hosted in part by Senator Greg Ball, attracted hundreds of veterans last year.

This year’s Thanksgiving Dinner will be held, once again, at the Putnam National Golf Course and is scheduled for Saturday, November 23rd. There will be seatings at 1 p.m., 3 p.m. and 5 p.m..

“This wonderful event couldn’t be possible without the help of local scouts, school groups, sports teams and hundreds of volunteers that turn out each year. I urge anyone that wants to give back to those that gave so much to us, to help us in the planning efforts of this dinner,” said Senator Greg Ball. “To see the smile on the vets’ faces as they walk into the room, makes the dinner worth it every year.”

To show his appreciation to local veterans, Earle Bellows, of Mahopac, volunteered at the dinner last year and says he will be back again this year.

“I think it is great that we honor those who have severed our country. It hits home to me because my father is a WWII veteran and my younger son currently serves our country. We can never forget our history and we always have to support our veterans,” said Bellows. “Kudos to Senator Ball, this is a great event he puts together and spearheads, I commend him and I commend all the volunteers that are involved. You actually have to see it to believe it, all the people that come out and dedicate their time for this event.”

New volunteers for the Thanksgiving dinner are welcomed as well donations including: turkeys, potatoes, green beans, cranberry sauce, stuffing, chicken broth,  salad, dinner rolls and more.

Anyone interested in attending, volunteering or donating goods is asked to contact Senator Greg Ball’s office at (845) 279-3773or

The next volunteer meeting will be held on October 3rd at 7:00PM, at the Putnam County Golf Course. (ARTICLE)
