The Tappan Zee Bridge replacement is still years away from completion, but it’s apparently not too early to start mulling names for the $3.1 billion spectacle on the Hudson.

State Sen. Greg Ball (R, C, I – Patterson) said he will introduce legislation to name the new span the Purple Heart Memorial Bridge in honor of wounded veterans.  He also wants the Taconic State Parkway bridge at Bryant Pond Road in Putnam County to be renamed the Disabled American Veterans’ Bridge.

“The men and women returning home from service to our country with injuries incurred in the line of duty are so worthy of this dedication,” Ball said in a news release Tuesday. “The new Tappan Zee Bridge and the Taconic State Parkway bridge at Bryant Pond Road will serve as a constant reminder that freedom is not free, it is paid for by the blood, sweat and tears of our service men and women.” (ARTICLE)
