MARJORIE KEITH NAMED AS CARMEL WOMAN OF DISTINCTION
Brewster, N.Y. – (6/10/13) – Marjorie Keith has been honored as the Town of Carmel’s nomination for the 2nd Annual Women of Distinction Hall of Fame, hosted by Senator Greg Ball (R,C,I-Patterson).
“I am honored to accept Ms. Keith as Carmel’s nomination into my 2nd Annual Women of Distinction Hall of Fame,” said Senator Greg Ball. “When I was younger, I was very involved in the 4-H program for over 10 years, so I truly understand and appreciate all the great work Ms. Keith does for our community every day.”
“I am very honored to receive this recognition. I have worked alongside many wonderful people in my professional and community life,” said Marjorie Nichols Keith. “I would like to thank Supervisor Ken Schmitt and Town Board members for the Town of Carmel for the nomination and Senator Greg Ball for creating the Women of Distinction Hall of Fame.”
Created and hosted by Senator Ball, The Women Of Distinction Hall of Fame was designed to honor outstanding women from throughout the 40th Senate District. Towns, villages and cities district-wide are currently in the process of selecting their nominees that will eventually lead up to a hall of fame ceremony in Carmel.
“I am so happy to nominate Marjorie Keith as Carmel’s Woman of Distinction. I can’t think of anyone better to receive this nomination. She has selflessly donated countless hours of her time to our youth and our community, along with countless hours spent volunteering for Cornell Cooperative Extension” said Carmel Town Supervisor Ken Schmitt. “I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to Senator Greg Ball for organizing this great event and allowing us to nominate Marjorie for this award.”
Marjorie Nichols Keith is a lifelong Putnam County resident. She was born in the Town of Carmel, educated in the Carmel School System and resides with her family in the Carmel hamlet. She has led a notable 38 year career with Cornell Cooperative Extension of Putnam County, serving as Executive Director since 1987. During this time, Ms. Keith has served on numerous Cornell University Cooperative Extension committees and work teams connecting the research and knowledge of Cornell University, New York’s land grant university, with the needs of Putnam County residents, businesses, and communities, in the areas of environment and natural resources, community and economic vitality and youth development. She has received state and national Cooperative Extension recognitions for distinguished service and program excellence.
Ms. Keith extends her leadership skills into her community life, currently serving on the Putnam Hospital Center Foundation Board of Directors, Putnam County Economic Development Corporation Board of Directors and SCORE – Putnam Chapter Advisory Board. She has also served on the Putnam Hospital Center Board of Trustees, United Way of Westchester and Putnam’s Board of Directors and various project committees, Putnam Alliance Board of Directors and more.
The ceremony will be hosted on Saturday, September 8, 2013 at the Putnam County Emergency Services Building starting at 2pm.
