MEDIA ADVISORY: SENATOR BALL PRESENTS POTENTIALLY DEVASTATING EFFECTS OF HYDROFRACKING TO YORKTOWN RESIDENTS
***Friday, February 17th at 7:00 p.m.***
Brewster, N.Y. – (2/13/12) – On Friday, February 17, Senator Greg Ball (R, C – Patterson) will present evidence of some of the more devastating effects of hydraulic fracturing, a potentially damaging and poorly regulated method of natural gas extraction still under review by the state Department of Environmental Conservation, at the Yorktown Town Hall.
“We can’t give a red carpet welcome to an industry that is poorly understood and, currently, not properly regulated,” said Senator Ball. “In Dimock, P.A., I visited families who had their drinking water contaminated with the toxic concoction natural gas companies use and who saw the values of their homes drop by 90 percent. I am working diligently to make sure the public becomes both aware and educated on the potential effects of fracking and the proper regulations are put in place to prevent big gas companies from devastating our homes and landscapes.”
Senator Ball’s support to extend hydrofracking moratorium and his proposed “Property Owner’s Bill of Rights” (S5879), a set of mandates intended to curb back unregulated practices by natural gas companies, is drawing bipartisan support in Albany.
